چکیده

Abstract Diatoms constitute a representative portion of the algal community freshwater aquatic environments, but their studies are centered mostly in south and southern regions Brazil, making microalgae biodiversity water bodies semiarid practically unknown. In state Ceará, few records Bacillariaceae region generally not identified at specific level. Denticula, Hantzschia, Tryblionella worldwide distributed diatom genera that belong to family Bacillariaceae. The group is characterized by raphe located on channel, internally supported silica extensions, fibulae. This taxonomic study found northwestern Ceará state. Planktonic periphytic samples were collected four hydrographic basins, which influenced climate, northeastern Brazil. Fourteen infrageneric taxa identified, described, illustrated, all being pioneer citations for Ceará. present highlighted underestimated diversity diatoms need cover undersampled or never explored significantly contribute knowledge flora its distribution Brazilian environments.

Tryblionella persuadens comb. nov. (Bacillariaceae, Diatomeae): new observations on frustule morphology of a seldom recorded diatom.

The species originally described from brackish waters of the Venetian Lagoon as Nitzschia persuadens is a diatom rarely cited in the literature since its proposition and it is here recorded for the first time in a freshwater environment in South America. Morphological features of this species, such valve slightly panduriform, with a longitudinal straight fold of the valve face, poroidal areolae...

New epilithic Naviculales (Bacillariophyta) from Ivory Coast

Epilithic diatom of the Ivory Coast is very poorly understood, aims of this study are: to document the epilithic diatom diversity from Naviculales. In this study, the epilithic diatoms in the samples collected from ten stations on the Me River between February and July 2012. A total of 56 Naviculales new taxa in 8 families were recorded. The taxonomic composition observed was dominated by Navic...

The diatom genus Tetracyclus (Fragilariaceae, Bacillariophyta) from Chile

Consequently the name Biblarium chilense is a nomen nudum. Even so, some years later De Toni, observing neither illustration nor specimen, transferred it to Tetracyclus as Tetracyclus (chilensis) chilense (Ehrenb.) De Toni (De Toni 1892: 749). Regardless of these nomenclatural details, that a species of Tetracyclus was found in Chile offered data of potential biogeographic interest (Williams 20...

Cocconeis churalis: a new marine diatom (Bacillariophyta, Cocconeidaceae) from Japan

A new species of Cocconeis, C. churalis, was found on a red seaweed collected from the Southwest Islands of Japan. Its morphology was examined with both light and scanning electron microscopy and the details are described here. This small diatom is characterized by the concave raphid valve with a slightly sigmoid raphe and uniseriate striae consists of circular areolae occluded by hymenes with ...

Gametogenesis and Auxospore Development in Actinocyclus (Bacillariophyta)

cGametogenesis and auxospore development have been studied in detail in surprisingly few centric diatoms. We studied the development of sperm, eggs and auxospores in Actinocyclus sp., a radially symmetrical freshwater diatom collected from Japan, using LM and electron microscopy of living cultures and thin sections. Actinocyclus represents a deep branch of the 'radial centric' diatoms and shoul...
